Running for Good – Becky-David Spring Sprint will Award Scholarship to FHN Senior

Schools in FHSD work to create a better sense of fellowship, recognizing that the students and staff there are part of something bigger – a community of family and friends. A great example at Becky-David Elementary is their upcoming community-wide Spring Sprint, a 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. And it’s not just about getting fit together; proceeds from the Spring Sprint will help support the Becky-David PTO and the new “Reach for the Stars” Alumni Scholarship.

Becky-David Principal Sherri Brown sees this as the start of something truly great. “We are so excited that our PTO has created this event,” Brown said, “which will allow the entire Becky-David community to come together for a healthy activity that also benefits our alumni.”

The new scholarship Brown mentioned is the “Reach for the Stars” Alumni Scholarship, a $1000 award that will be presented to a Francis Howell North senior this year. “We are proud of all of our ‘Stars’ and this scholarship will benefit one who exemplifies our values of being respectful, responsible, trustworthy, and caring by being their best self and doing their best work.”

The Spring Sprint is an “out-and-back” road race designed and timed by Fleet Feet Sports. Registration includes a 2018 Spring Sprint T-shirt for all participants. There will be awards for the top finishers in each age bracket. After the run, participants can join in the Spring Fling event at Becky-David for what is sure to be a fun-filled day.

The entry fee for the 5K or 1-Mile: $25 for ages 13 and up; $10 for ages 5-12; and $10 for Becky-David teachers and staff. All runners must arrive by 8:45 AM on race day, and all runners must be wearing official numbered bibs. Please allow ample time for parking in the Becky-David and Barnwell Middle school lots. An adult must accompany participants under the age of 13 during the entire race.

Participants can register online. To guarantee T-Shirt availability, please register by 4/13.

Parent volunteers are very welcome, as well as anyone who wants to come cheer on the runners. Contact Rachel King, Race Chair, for information or general questions about this event. Full race details, including complete course maps and pick-up information, can be found on the race website link located on the registration page. Both the 1-Mile and 5K races will start and end in the lower level Barnwell Middle School parking lot and route through an adjacent neighborhood (it is not a closed course).

Sponsorship opportunities are also available – Bronze, $50; Silver, $100; Gold (presenting sponsor), $500.
